What Happens to the Asphalt When You Install a Steel Roof?
One of the keys to the Hy-Grade Steel Roofing System is our double roof strapping system. Double roof strapping gives us the ‘frame’ we need to fasten the steel to your roof deck. Such a frame creates ventilation, helps us level your roof, and holds the nails we use permanently in place. As well, double roof strapping can go right over your existing roof; no need to strip the asphalt!
Not having to remove the asphalt shingles saves time, labour, and money, savings we pass on to you. Importantly, by leaving the asphalt on your roof, you’re helping to keep an average of two tonnes of waste out of landfills. That’s right… the average house has two tonnes of asphalt on its roof, destined for landfills!
The Hy-Grade Steel Roofing System is designed to shed water effectively on its own; an added layer of old asphalt shingles beneath it has no effect on this functionality. Moreover, leaving the asphalt roof helps provide an extra barrier of protection against noise and weather.
